The idea of the Robert Burns 10k race was born out of conversation over good food, wine and beer, and positive vibes at our fellow comrade Chip's rooftop patio. Inspired by Crow Athletics race organizer Gary Allen, and having for so many years competed in events, we were excited to contribute to the running community by putting on a well managed race ourselves. We agreed that the event should be unique, support a good cause, and have a special personal element connected to the theme of the race. Both of us celebrate our Scottish Heritage, and the race happened to coincide with the birthday of Scottish cultural hero Robert Burns: Scotland's most celebrated poet. The proceeds of the race go to the Westbrook High School Compass Program, an alternative learning program for kids who have a hard time fitting into a normal classroom structure. We believe that it is critically important to support all children with opportunities and a first rate education. Education is a core function of civilization, different people learn in different ways, and we're proud to support the Compass Program in this important work.  - Ned Swain & Myles Courtney, race founders.
